The Greater London Authority forms strategic citywide government for London. Based in City Hall, the GLA aims to provide strategic direction for the future of London, comprising around 600 staff to help the London Mayor and Assembly in their responsibilities.

The Mayor is London's spokesman. He leads the preparation of statutory strategies on transport, spatial development, economic development and the environment. He sets budgets for the GLA, Transport for London, the London Development Agency, the Metropolitan Police and London's fire services.

13 August 2010 East London Assembly Member John Biggs warns: "Mayor Boris Johnson wants to get rid of up to 145 sets of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings from London’s streets.  The three pedestrian crossings they propose for the chop in Tower Hamlets are Tredegar Road by Cardigan Road, Marsh Wall/Millharbour and Limeharbour by Cross Harbour Station. Richard Tracey: “Runaway train underlines need for Tube investment”

13 August 2010 London Assembly Conservative Group transport spokesman has today said that the runaway train on the Northern line underlined the need for investment on the Underground. Brian Coleman AM welcomes approval for Jewish cemetery expansion

13 August 2010 Barnet and Camden´s London Assembly member, Brian Coleman, has hailed the Planning Inspector´s approval of the expansion of Edgwarebury Lane Jewish Cemetery as a “victory for common sense”. A planning application for the cemetery´s expansion had been rejected by the local planning committee.  However, it was approved by the Planning Inspector on appeal, following a planning inquiry at which Mr Coleman gave evidence in favour of the scheme. 360-house-thumb.jpg Yes

Coleman calls for an end to all car clamping

18 August 2010 Barnet and Camden’s London Assembly member, Brian Coleman has welcomed the Government’s decision to ban car clamping on private land and now calls on them to extend the policy to the public land and highways. Londoners urged to back the bid with ‘Wear your shirt to work day’

20 August 2010 As part of London’s ongoing support for the England 2018 World Cup bid, the Mayor of London and Visit London are encouraging Londoners and businesses in the capital to wear their football shirts to work.
