Chancellor launches new free money advice service

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling is today launching a new free money advice service to be rolled out around the country.


Public expenditure outturn update

This release presents updated estimates of key public spending outturn series against two frameworks. The budgeting framework (used in Tables 1 to 7) deals with spending within central government departmental budgets, which is how the Government plans and controls public spending. This budgeting framework is largely based on resource accounting principles.

Chancellor thanks Kate Barker for service to the Monetary Policy Committee

Kate Barker will step down from the Monetary Policy Committee when her current term expires on 31 May 2010. The Chancellor said:

Framework to give businesses greater certainty on tax policy

The Government today published a draft Tax Framework for business. Developed in discussion with the Business-Government Forum on Tax and Globalisation, the document is intended to provide greater certainty for large businesses about the Government´s approach to the development of tax policy.

Spring Supplementary Estimates 2009-10

The spring Supplementary Estimates, presented to the House of Commons today as HC 257, seek authority for expenditure by government departments of £11.5 billion in resources and £8.1 billion in cash. The Estimates seek parliamentary authority for increased resources and cash both for existing services and for any necessary new services.

Changes to public expenditure National Statistics releases

As part of the Government’s alignment project, announced in the Green Paper ‘The Governance of Britain’, changes are being made to the budgeting framework in order to more closely align Budgets, Resource Accounts and Supply estimates. This will simplify the Government’s financial reporting to Parliament by ensuring it reports in a more consistent fashion.
