The House of Commons holds the majority of the legislative power for the United Kingdom. The House of Commons function is to debate new laws and procedure and propose changes to current laws, to authorise taxes and to provide scrutiny of the policy of the Government.

Since 2005, the House of Commons of the United Kingdom has had 646 elected members; this will increase to 650 at the next General Election.
